Apprentice open evening success

More than 100 potential apprentices and guests attended an open evening in our Apprentice Training Centre in Scunthorpe in April to find out about starting a career with British Steel.

Grahame Wallace, Chief Engineer, opened the evening by sharing the positive news of the Sales and Purchasing Agreement being signed by Greybull Capital and spoke about the company’s exciting future. Grahame said: “It is an exciting and fantastic time for apprentices to join the business, as the injection of youth and talent is essential for us to develop a sustainable future. Our apprentice scheme and apprentices are recognised as being of a high standard – the scheme offers training for life coupled with real responsibility.”

The evening continued with talks on each discipline available for apprentices (Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Technical, IT, Finance and Business Administration) as well as the Trainee Engineer and Trainee Technologist schemes, which are targeted at A-level leavers. Apprentices and employees from each function area delivered presentations to discuss the exciting opportunities available and to answer any questions.

North Lindsey College and Humber University Technical College were there to support the event, as well as senior management from around the business. Laura Marsden, Early Career Development Advisor, said: “It was great to see so many students interested in the schemes we have available here. We have received great feedback from those who attended and I would like to thank everybody who was involved and made the event possible.”
