A Team Leader from our BOS Plant in Scunthorpe has been rewarded for his work supporting a local football club.
John Corbett has been the Team Manager for Bottesford Town Football Club for five years, and also organises and delivers a school holiday programme for the club.
British Steel's Community Liaison Manager Rachel Lawrence said: “John is one of a number of our fantastic employees who help our communities to thrive by volunteering their time and expertise.
“We’ve given John a Community Champion Award as a small thank you for his hard work and to help the club to continue to provide high quality coaching in our local community.”
The Bottesford Town Football Club school holiday courses provide fun and safe football workshops for youngsters aged 4 to 14.
“We’ve been running the school holiday club for three years now,” said John.
“The £200 British Steel award will enable us to replace some of our worn equipment so we can continue to deliver the same high quality coaching.”
Our Community Champion awards give British Steel employees who volunteer in their local community an opportunity to apply for up to £200 for their community organisation. This is part of our wider Building Stronger Communities programme, which provides support to charities and non-profit organisations to help support the economic and social wellbeing of the areas in which we operate.
