A British Steel colleague from our Skinningrove site who set up a children’s football team three years ago has become our latest Community Champion.
Mark Grayson set up the Saltburn Athletic FC Under 10s team to give younger children in his area an opportunity to become more active. The team has since doubled in size and Mark has led the group to victory in its first league football tournament.
“The joy and happiness I saw on the faces of the boys when they won their age group and received a large cup was amazing,” said Mark, a Production Team Member at our Special Profiles operation in Skinningrove.
“To watch the boys improve and develop over the years has been fantastic. Their passion and enthusiasm for football is a joy to see and I'm proud to be part of it.”
British Steel Community Champion awards give our colleagues who volunteer in their local community an opportunity to apply for up to £200 to support their organisation. This is part of our wider Building Stronger Communities Programme, which provides support to charities and non-profit organisations to help support the economic and social wellbeing of the areas in which we operate.
