Midland Main Line (Electrification)

We've been supporting the Kettering-Corby phase of the Midland Main Line upgrade project with our pre-rolled sections.

As part of a wide-scale project on the Midland Main Line railway line, steel fabricator Adey Steel was appointed the sole supplier for overhead line equipment (OLE).

We manufactured and supplied Adey Steel with 2,700 tonnes of shot blasted and cut to length sections – universal columns, parallel flange channels and angles for masts, booms and other OLE.

Logistics played a vital part in delivering the steel structures for the Kettering to Corby upgrade on time and within budget.

A pioneering approach to cost control was used, which involved us pre-rolling all project raw material, so that steel price fluctuations were de-risked and a consistent supply of material from storage could be guaranteed.

The electrification enhancement, as well as the increased track capacity and signalling rejuvenation, has since increased passenger capacity and reduced journey times from London St Pancras to Corby and Kettering.
