Quality and performance

British Steel has extensive experience in the manufacture of grooved rail sections for the growing urban mass transit market. Our grooved rail is installed on the majority of urban networks across Europe and many prestigious transport systems worldwide. We offer proven manufacturing expertise and apply stringent standards throughout the entire rail production process – from bloom manufacture to final testing. This ensures the consistent quality and performance of our grooved rail.

Recent projects served by British Steel have included networks in Belgium, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, the UK and Morocco.

We utilise our understanding of steel application in the grooved rail sector to develop innovative products and services. We share our steel know-how with customers to help maximise rail life, reduce life cycle costs and minimise the carbon impact of tramway networks.

We offer a wide range of standard steel grades and also have developed grades specifically tailored to the tramways need for in-track weld repairable grades, particularly through gauge corner weld restoration. These grades are identified by the Multi-Life prefix (e.g., ML330). Find out more in the multi life section below.
