Scunthorpe United Football Club will be breaking with tradition on Saturday when they step out for their match against local rivals Rotherham United in a British Steel-themed kit.
The limited edition kit has been exclusively designed in the company's Molten Orange and Cool Navy colours in preparation for the British Steel Family Day match at Glanford Park. Instead of their traditional claret and blue, players will be kitted out in the exclusive strip as they face the Millers for the SKY Bet League One clash.
British Steel Deputy CEO Paul Martin said: “Our award-winning brand, which was developed in consultation with our employees, was launched in June 2016. Our Molten Orange and Cool Navy colours reflect the vibrancy of our fresh new brand and the high quality and professionalism of our people and products.
“We’re proud to have worked with Scunthorpe United Football Club as their Main Club Partner to create this kit, which showcases a brand with British Steel values at its heart. We hope it brings the Iron luck against the Millers at the weekend.”
British Steel agreed a partnership deal with Scunthorpe United last year for the 2017-18 season. The British Steel Family Day on Saturday will give the company’s employees the chance to purchase tickets at a special rate. In addition to this, children of employees will step out with the team as mascot and flag bearers and volunteers will collect donations for British Steel’s Community Partner Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
The shirts worn by the players on Saturday will be auctioned off to raise money for Lindsey Lodge Hospice, with full details to be announced later in the season.
Scunthorpe United’s Chief Executive Officer, James Rodwell, said: “To coincide with the British Steel Family Day, we wanted to celebrate the partnership by wearing a special edition third kit in their fantastic, vibrant, Molten Orange and Cool Navy colours for this game.
“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with them and we hope that everyone at the game associated with British Steel has a great day at Glanford Park.”
British Steel Structural Apprentice Lee Barnard has skilfully designed and built an exclusive trophy to be presented to the Scunthorpe United Man of Steel during the British Steel Family Day match. Lee (20) will be presenting his trophy to the chosen ‘Man of Steel’ and British Steel is asking Iron fans to help choose their Man of Steel by tweeting the name of their chosen man of the match with #ManOfSteel, before the 80th minute of the game.
