Sustainability first for our steel product range

After 4 days of rigorous auditing, we’re thrilled to announce the British Standards Institution (BSI) has certified us against the Environmental and Sustainability Standard BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing of Products. And for the first time, this now covers all our steel products manufactured in Scunthorpe, Teesside and Skinningrove.

Lee Adcock, Group Environment Manager, said: “Having sustainable business practices is hugely important to the future of our business and something our customers actively look for in their suppliers. It’s also an important demonstration of our ongoing commitment to the UK Steel Charter with regards to responsible sourcing of materials.”

The audit covered a multitude of areas including responsible sourcing, HR, material traceability, safety and environmental management systems, waste prevention and business ethics.

Lee added: "There’s a growing focus throughout supply chains on sustainable development and responsible sourcing. Achieving BES 6001 certification is well-deserved recognition of our continued drive to improve ways of working. As well as helping build our sustainability credentials, the certification will open up new opportunities and business prospects.”

“The audit was, as you’d expect, demanding and rigorous. It took a great team effort so my sincere thanks go to the many people involved.”
