Steel frames erected at new mast service centre

The steel frames for British Steel’s  £26-million mast service centre at Skinningrove have been erected.

The frames were manufactured at Teesside Beam Mill and their installation marks a significant milestone in the project which will place us as a global leader in the supply of steel for forklift truck masts.

Project Manager Stuart Webster said: “The steel erection of the buildings is now complete. The next stage is to complete the roof and wall sheeting so that the concrete floors can be installed prior to Christmas, ready for the equipment arrival in mid-January.”

The new development, scheduled to open early next year, will have a mill guide and roll workshop, mast processing facility, warehouse extension and two-storey office block.

Its operations will be highly automated and will include a new milling machine and three new saw lines. The roll lathe shop will also have four new roll turning lathes. Output capacity will increase dramatically and supply to customers is expected to be quicker and more efficient.

The new service centre, which will include cut-to-length lines, product milling, machining and warehousing operations, will enable us to make and process an extended range of value-added profiles for the forklift industry.
