New laboratories underline British Steel's commitment to product development

British Steel is underlining its commitment to product development by building new laboratories at its Scunthorpe site.

Work is underway on the project at our Scunthorpe Rod Mill and, once completed, the new laboratories will further enhance British Steel’s testing facilities.

Richard Sims, British Steel Managing Director Wire Rod, said: “We’re continually looking at ways to improve our products and the new laboratories will play an important role in doing this.

“They’ll help us achieve the tighter tolerances the market demands and ensure we continue to manufacture the high quality products our customers rightly expect.

“The market is constantly evolving and it’s crucial we not only keep pace with change but help lead it.”

British Steel’s wire rod business employs 300 people and the rod goes into a variety of products, ranging from tyre cord and bed springs to paper clips and pins
