Over 200 people apply for 30 British Steel apprenticeships in Scunthorpe

Over 200 people have applied to become British Steel apprentices as the business looks to build its next generation of engineers and technical experts.

The company, which is also recruiting for 180 permanent roles, is looking to enrol its first apprentices in 3 years.

There are vacancies for 24 engineering craft apprenticeships and 6 Technical apprenticeships, all based in Scunthorpe.

With the closing date for apprenticeship applications being 11.59pm tomorrow (Friday 6 June 2025), people considering the roles are being urged to apply now.

Interim Chief Executive Officer Allan Bell said: “We are building for the future, and this starts with our people and the superb career opportunities we now have on offer.

“To have so far received more than 200 applications for our apprenticeships is a major vote of confidence in our business, and I’d like to thank everyone who has already applied. The standard of applications is exceptionally high and it gives us even greater optimism for the future of British Steel.

Successful candidates will join a comprehensive 3-year training programme preparing them for life as a full-time British Steel employee.

The company is working closely with local training providers to ensure the best possible training experience, with a blend of technical knowledge and practical hands-on skills.
