In excess of 20 colleagues from across all areas of the business have recently taken part in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training.
The training has been delivered in partnership with North Lincolnshire Public Health and the Baton of Hope charity as part of our continued involvement with the Baton of Hope tour. The tour starts its Scunthorpe area journey at our headquarters on 15 September and will visit 20 locations throughout the UK raising awareness of suicide prevention.
All participants felt the training was very beneficial and came away from the 2-day course feeling better equipped to support someone in crisis or who may be having suicidal thoughts.
To further our commitment to mental health and suicide awareness within the business we have also signed up to the gold level Workplace Pledge.
As part of the pledge, we commit:
A team of ‘Hope’ ambassadors will also be identified and trained to provide an internal network of support that complements existing mental health provision.
Martin Welch, Occupational Health Manager for British Steel, said: “It was really positive to see so many colleagues from across all areas of the business taking part in this training.
“Through training sessions like this and through our commitment to the gold level workplace pledge we hope to support each other to increase suicide awareness, support and prevention.”
