British Steel welcomed the Government’s Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, to its Scunthorpe site.
Her visit follows on from the news that a total of 59 new apprentices will be joining British Steel in September, which is providing fantastic opportunities for young people from across the region.
Ms Phillipson said: "This is the first time in 2 years that British Steel has been able to take on new apprentices, the new intake is fantastic news for the region and for those apprentices. It also demonstrates the bright future that steelmaking has in the UK."
Current British Steel electrical apprentice Niles Procter-Green, who is about to complete his apprenticeship, joined the Education Secretary on a tour of the site.
On his British Steel apprenticeship Niles commented: "My British Steel Apprenticeship has been the key to the door for me, to work in and be a part of the steel industry is such a great opportunity."
