Caterpillar awards Gold to British Steel for outstanding quality and service

British Steel has secured the prestigious Caterpillar Gold Award for the ninth time as it seeks to become the first company worldwide to achieve a consecutive decade at that level.

Our Special Profiles business, which manufactures special shaped steel sections for use in a range of industries from earth moving equipment to mining, has once again been awarded Caterpillar’s coveted Gold award standard for providing outstanding quality and service.

Caterpillar has also awarded our Scunthorpe steel plant a Class 1a status – the highest ranking possible – following a thorough audit.

The awards are made as part of Caterpillar’s Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP). The company’s suppliers undergo an intensive annual assessment, with only a very small percentage receiving the top gold standard.

David Waine, Commercial Director – Special Profiles, said: “We’re incredibly proud that a valued customer like Caterpillar has again recognised the quality of our people, products and services.

“It’s a major honour and we’ll keep working hard to deliver further improvements.”

Our Special Profiles operations are based in Skinningrove near Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Darlington in County Durham. Further information about the products our colleagues make is available at https://britishsteel.co.uk/what-we-do/special-profiles/
