British Steel's £3.1m investment in mobile equipment boosts operations

A £3.1 million investment in heavy mobile equipment is giving our Scunthorpe operations a major lift – and now you can see them in action for yourself.

That is because a video has been made about the magnificent machines supplied to us by Finning UK and Ireland and you can watch it here.

We have forged a trusted relationship with Finning, which has supported us in replacing our hot works Cat® fleet – which was coming to the end of its operational life – through a combination of rebuilds, rentals and on-site support.

The solution recommended by Finning included 3 rebuilt machines – a Cat 988K large wheel loader and 2 Cat 771D trucks. In addition, we purchased 4 used Cat machines – 1 Cat 972 and 2 Cat 980M wheel loaders, plus a Cat 730 haul truck.

The combined support package also included the long-term rental of 2 Cat 745 ADTs and a Cat 352 and 336 excavator to help us meet demand on site while our assets were being refurbished, while 3 Finning expert engineers had a permanent presence on site providing operational support throughout the rebuild process.
