British Steel welcomes 4 former Prax apprentices

British Steel has welcomed 4 new employees after they completed their apprenticeships at Prax.

Following the recent redundancy consultation at Prax, its HR team reached out to see if we had any opportunities that would suit these apprentices at the start of their careers. After meeting and interviewing them, we saw their potential and enthusiasm would be a great fit for British Steel.

Our new starters, who joined this month, include Archie Holness and Louis Boyd who have joined the Concast team. Archie is working on the billet caster, while Louis is on the slab caster, ensuring smooth operations and preventing issues during the process.

Meanwhile, Harry Snell and Alfie Boswell have been assigned to the BOS Plant, where they are learning about secondary steelmaking and vessel operations. Both will eventually progress into operator roles within the plant.

To build on the skills gained during their apprenticeships, all four colleagues are undertaking additional training. This includes a burning course focused on metal cutting, and in December, they’ll start forklift driving training – both exciting new experiences.

Alfie said: “The first few weeks have gone really well. I’ve enjoyed getting an overview of the entire BOS Plant and learning new skills. I’m looking forward to putting those skills into practice and exploring other areas of the plant and site.”

Our 4 new colleagues join the 54 apprentices who joined the business in September.
