Can you negotiate a new career with British Steel? That’s the question job hunters are being asked as the company looks to recruit more people into its Procurement team in Scunthorpe.
Since the business was launched in June last year, around 350 new people have joined British Steel, and the firm is in the process of recruiting a further 40 apprentices.
In addition to this, the company is now seeking to bolster its procurement team by filling a number of key roles in the department.
Lorraine Sawyer, British Steel’s Procurement Director, said: “This is an exciting time for our business and a great opportunity to join us.
“Our procurement team is vital to the future sustainability of our company so it is crucial we get the right people for the right jobs.
“On an annual basis we handle deals worth hundreds of millions of pounds and given the amount of raw materials, products and services we require it is vital we get the best deals possible for British Steel and our partners.
“So if you’re a good negotiator and up for the challenge, then this could be your chance to make your mark with British Steel.”
If you’re interested in the roles, the company is staging a special procurement recruitment event to give potential employees the opportunity to meet the team and learn about the roles on offer. Further help and advice will be available from British Steel’s Human Resources Team.
Lorraine said: “As well as good negotiating skills, one of the most important things we are looking for in applicants is the ability to foster strong and lasting relationships with current suppliers and new ones.
“Excellent customer service and customer relations are central to everything we do so it is imperative we work closely with our suppliers. By working together we are confident we can not only build a stronger future for our business and our employees, but for our customers and suppliers too.
“We are always open to new ideas and suggestions – whether they be from our employees or suppliers – so anyone who joins our team is not only guaranteed first class training and support, but exciting new challenges every day.
“British Steel also offers competitive pay and fantastic career prospects and this has been demonstrated by the thousands of people who have applied to join us in the last 9 months.
“We anticipate a great deal of interest in this event so please come along and learn more about the opportunities we have in the procurement team.”
The procurement recruitment event will take place between 4.30pm-7pm on Tuesday March 28th 2017 at British Steel’s Conference Centre on Brigg Road, Scunthorpe (Gate E - sat nav postcode DN16 1XA).
The procurement recruitment event comes less than two months after British Steel hosted the 2017 North Lincolnshire Jobs Fair which saw more than 1,000 people attend.
