British Steel is recruiting 25 people to join them on their brand new manufacturing trainee scheme.
These exciting new roles will be based in manufacturing areas across its Scunthorpe site and more details will be available at the North Lincolnshire Jobs Fair, which British Steel is hosting tomorrow.
The new recruits will get involved in a variety of different tasks and duties could include operating mobile plant and machinery, driving cranes, loading and unloading vehicles, moving materials, and taking samples.
Comprehensive training, both on- and off-the job, will be provided.
This is the first time the company has recruited directly into this trainee role. The scheme was developed in conjunction with our unions and is brand new for 2017. The intention is to recruit into these roles on a regular basis.
Paul Martin, Managing Director, British Steel, said: “We’re recruiting our steelworkers of the future – these are the people that may be leading our operations in years to come.
“This new scheme offers a fantastic opportunity for people wanting to join our company and gain qualifications and experience while working.
“We’re a new company with a proud heritage but we’re looking to the future, and that means making sure we have the skills and capabilities to take us there.
“We want to hear from applicants that are flexible, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude that will help our ambitious company to achieve its goals. Our employees are fundamental to our success.”
Applicants must be aged 18 and over as this is a legal requirement in order to be able to work shifts. They must also have a pass in GSCE (or equivalent) Maths and English.
British Steel offers a variety of trainee routes, including apprenticeships, unique degree apprenticeships and graduate schemes.
Paul McBean, Scunthorpe site Multi-union chairman, said: “It’s great to see the company is continuing to recruit new people. This scheme is an excellent opportunity to join the company.”
