British Steel Express raises £500 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice

A festive train ride for employees and their families around British Steel’s Scunthorpe works has raised more than £500 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Hundreds of people boarded the British Steel Express, which gave children a first class view of where their relatives work before receiving a present from Santa

The annual event is organised by employees, the unions and The Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society and proceeds from the day are going to the hospice, our new community partner.

Rebecca Slater, British Steel’s Community Liaison Manager, said: “The British Steel Express was a huge success and it was great to see employees coming together to enjoy themselves as well as raising £553.75 for Lindsey Lodge.

“None of this would have been possible without the help of so many people and I’d like to thank them all, particularly our works guides and their families, the unions and The Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society.

“Everyone was delighted to see the Cranford loco when they approached the platform and she did a tremendous job, taking three different tours around the works. Santa’s grotto was on board the British Steel Express and children wrote and posted letters to him before meeting him and getting a present.

“Before and after the tour refreshments were served in the conference centre and I’d like to thank everyone who not only made them, but gave up their time to serve and help on the day.”

Lindsey Lodge Hospice also attended the event and held a raffle to raise money.

Anne Millett, Lindsey Lodge’s Community Fundraising Coordinator, said: “It was fantastic to see so many families attend the event. British Steel employees have once again shown their generosity by helping us raise vital funds for the hospice.”
