A cheque for £2,700 has been handed to Scunthorpe General Hospital’s Ward 18 following a fundraising event at British Steel in July.
Scunthorpe Site Multi Union Chairman, Paul McBean, was joined by Pete Bowers and Dawn Baxter from contract company Apollo to organise the charity day in memory of Paul’s wife, Jane.
“Jane passed away on the ward on 30 December 2016, “ said Paul.
“The dedication and caring of all who worked on the ward, not only to Jane but to my whole family was unforgettable and was the driving force for the charity day.
“I would like to thank everybody who helped, contributed and joined in on the day. From the guys getting soaked in the ‘stocks’, myself included, to the beard shaves, raffle, auction, cakes and many more things that were done and contributed on the day.
“Ward 18, sadly, has been used and is still being used by many people in our community and town, as well as many of our workforce at British Steel, past and present. To all who work on ward 18, thank you.”
