Our employees have helped us generate more than £27,500 for good causes in our local communities over the last 2 years.
The news comes as we reach the end of our 2-year partnerships with Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe and the Great North Air Ambulance Service in the North East of England.
"Our employees selected these charities to become our Community Partners in 2016 and since then we've generated a total of £27,889.91 for these critical causes," said Community Liaison Manager Rachel Lawrence.
"We're incredibly grateful to everyone who's contributed to this fantastic outcome whether it's by baking or buying cakes, running a 10k race, or something more extreme like jumping out of an aeroplane.
"We'd also like to pay tribute to the dedicated and compassionate staff and volunteers at these charities, who care for our loved ones at their time of need. It's been our privilege to get to know both organisations very well over the course of the partnerships and we wish them a prosperous and successful 2019."
The Scunthorpe-based Lindsey Lodge Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support for North Lincolnshire patients and their families, while the Great North Air Ambulance Service provides emergency air ambulance services across the North of England.

“It’s extremely important for Lindsey Lodge to develop partnerships and forge strong relationships with our local business community, so we are extremely grateful to have had this opportunity to work so closely with British Steel.”
The Community Partner work is part of our wider Building Stronger Communities programme, which supports the economic and social wellbeing of the communities in which we operate. Further information about this programme is available here.
A calendar of events throughout the year brings in regular income for our Community Partners and employees are encouraged to take on their own fundraising activities to support the causes.
Employees recently voted for new partners for 2019 and 2020. The outcome of this vote will be announced in early 2019.
James Campbell who works at our Continuous Casting Plant in Scunthorpe is one of the many employees to support our Community Partners. He recently organised a football tournament involving teams from across our Scunthorpe site.
“With teams participating from different areas of the works, it was a good atmosphere and we were able to give something back by raising £270 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice,” said James.
“We see it as part of our responsibilities as British Steel employees to contribute to the company’s Building Stronger Communities programme and it’s something we enjoy and take pride in.”
