British Steel apprentice champions Lincolnshire and Nottingham Air Ambulance

British Steel 2nd year Technical Apprentice Adam Clarkson has been awarded a £200 community champion award for his fundraising efforts for the Lincs and Notts air ambulance.

Adam organised a live music event last month in Grimsby to raise money for the air ambulance following a serious car accident his parents were involved in earlier in the year.

Adam said: “Mum was seriously injured in the accident and was taken from the scene to Nottingham hospital by the Air Ambulance so she could receive specialist care for her injuries.

The Air Ambulance definitely had a significant impact on Mum’s recovery and I wanted to thank them for what they had done.”

The event, called ‘Live at the Warehouse’, saw local bands taking part to raise money through ticket sales, including Adam’s band The Vibe Co.

Adam said: “ The event was fantastic; we had over 100 people through the doors and had bucket collections in the venue.”

Over £700 was raised for the Air Ambulance in total, £200 of which came from British Steel awarding Adam with the community champion award.

Adam said “I would like to say thank you for the very kind donation from British Steel. I am really proud that my employer is supportive of a cause so close to my heart and the community champion award scheme is fantastic.”

The community champion award is available for all British Steel employees who actively raise money for charities or non-profit organisations in our local communities to apply for.

Rebecca Slater, Community Liaison Manager said: “We would encourage any employees who are involved in fundraising activities for a charity or non-profit organisation to apply for a community champion award.

“If their application is successful they will be given £200 to donate to their charity or non-profit organisation. It is a great way of recognizing our employees for the hard work they do in the community.”
