British Steel enhancing environmental performance with new water management contract

British Steel has agreed a major new contract which will enhance our environmental performance by further improving the management of our water quality and use in Scunthorpe.

SUEZ Water Technologies and Solutions will provide chemicals, services, and digital solutions for cooling water, boiler water, and wastewater treatment. This will improve automation and offer better transparency into chemical usage, water quality for reuse potential and wastewater clarification.

Combined, these services and solutions will also help reduce our water consumption and energy usage.

Edward Arnott, Operations Director, Energy, said: “We’re focused on improving our asset protection and environmental performance, and with water playing such an important role in the steelmaking process, it’s important we have first-class systems in place to manage our water quality and develop new and improved ways of working.”

Craig Hobkirk, Suez's Senior Vice President, Chemical & Monitoring Solutions, EMEA, said: “Steelmaking is a complex process that requires significant quantities of water. As a solutions provider in water processing, we are proud to work alongside British Steel Limited, a company committed to sustainable steelmaking, to help control its water consumption and further improve its environmental footprint at its facility in Scunthorpe.

“We look forward to growing our existing partnership over the long-term and leveraging our expertise in chemicals, services, and digital capabilities to enhance British Steel’s production and operations now and in the future.”
