I only started with British Steel in November 2021 - I'm enjoying the new challenge and working with the team. I've never worked in an area where everyone is so friendly and approachable, I look forward to what the future brings within the British Steel family.
How long have you been with the business?
I started in November 2021.
What does your day-to-day role involve?
As a technician, I carry out pre-placement medicals for new British Steel employees where we complete hearing tests, check vision, blood pressure checks, height and weight. I also complete safety-critical medicals for all British Steel employees who operate mobile plant to allow them to continue to work within the health and safety standards that are across plant.
I also take part in any tasks that are required throughout the department.
Why do you enjoy working for British Steel?
I really enjoy the team work and the high working standards from my team. My manager's friendly and approachable, and I have working hours that give me a good work-life balance.
Every day is different - I meet a lot of the workers from site where I can gain an insight to the different areas around site and life on British Steel.
What advice would you give to other people considering a career at British Steel?
I would say just go for it! I was in the NHS for 22 years and this is the best decision I have made in my working career.
