Engineering profile: Tom Neve

What was your previous experience before joining British Steel?
I served an apprenticeship on the Chemical Plant at Cristal Pigments and then worked as a gearbox technician at Brevini before starting at British Steel through Holme Steel.

What knowledge do you bring to the business?
I bring a general engineering knowledge and also an in-depth knowledge of bearings, seals and tolerances.

What are you enjoying about working with us so far?
I’m mostly enjoying working with experienced people and learning from them.

Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years’ time within British Steel?
I hope to be working as I am currently.

Why did you choose to apply to British Steel?
I’d heard good, positive things about the business and wanted to be a part of it.

What does your day-to-day role involve?
My role involves refurbishing the segments for Concast as part of the Concast Refurbishment Team at the Mechanical Workshops.

What advice would you give to other people considering a career at British Steel?
Go for it!
