Process Control Computers and Communications IT (PCCIT)

Area outline: Process Control Computers and Communications is a small department that services all process control computers and data communications across the Scunthorpe steel works site. This covers repairs to plant critical computers, data cables and circuit boards, network installations, and anything that runs part of our plant with a circuit board in it.

Suitable for: Students with an interest in electronics and computers.

Student activities: We'll teach students throughout the week to prepare them for a task, which they'll need to complete by Friday. Students will need to repair and re-image a PC connecting to the works network. The schedule for the week of training will be as follows:

Monday – Basic circuit board repairs and soldering 

Tuesday – Network cables and general computer components

Wednesday – Fault finding on computer motherboards

Thursday – Building a new image and using acronis back-up software

Friday – Using the skills given, the student will attempt to repair, re-image and connect a faulty PC to the works network.

Working hours: 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday - Friday
