Central Technical

Area outline: Our Central Technical department deals with a number of diverse technical areas:

Intellectual property: Helping the business develop and maintain patents and trademarks and assessing the threats and opportunities from competitor IP.

Product rationalisation: Assessing the through process supply chain to improve efficiency.

R&D tax rebates: Defining and progressing tax rebate claims for R&D projects carried out within British Steel.

Training: Recruitment, training and placement of graduates, placement students, degree apprentices, etc.

Suitable for: Students with an interest in pursuing a science/technology based career who wish to gain experience of the technical and commercial aspects of the steel industry while in an office environment.

Student activities: Students should expect to be involved in activities such as:

  • Data gathering and trend analysis
  • Spreadsheet preparation/updating
  • Review of technical documents
  • Internet research (products, processes, customers, competitors)
  • Department meeting attendance
  • Filing and archiving

 Working hours:  8.00am - 4.00pm, Monday - Friday
